Ohio S.E.T. - Plus Lots More..

** Ohio SET October 1 **

October 1st will be the Ohio SET - an emergency exercise that is supposed to test all our abilities to activate, manage an emergency event, then demobilize.  Last year’s “extended power outage” was a great test...but ~this~ year’s! Oboy!  NOT your Mama’s little exercise. Our ARES leadership team went into overdrive for this one.

This year’s theme is “The total collapse of society. Preppers call it TEOTWAWKI – the end of the world as we know it.”  This is going to test our abilities to message, react and manage many situations. And we won’t be alone- the Ohio Military Reserve has become a partner for our exercise, and they’ll be doing a military exercise based on our situation.  You won’t want to miss this!

New State Government Liaison Appointed

I want you all to meet our newest State Government Liaison, Bob Winston, W2THU..  As you all read in the last edition of the Ohio Section Journal, Nick Pittner, K8NAP had decided to retire. This then prompted me to put on my thinking cap and start looking for someone that could carry the ball on for us in this program, and then it hit me.. Who better qualified than Bob!!  He’s litigated numerous antenna law suits over the years so he was my choice above all others, and he has accepted.

Please congratulate Bob in his newest adventure for the Ohio Section!!

Ohio ARES Conference..

Did you miss the Ohio ARES Conference this past weekend??  Boy, do I ever have a deal for you.. I videoed all of the presentations and they are available on-line for you to view at your leisure..  Here’s the link to get you started on viewing the fantastic conference that we had this past weekend…  http://arrl-ohio.org/SEC/sec-conf-2016.html

Now I gotta’ tell ya’.. Having all of the presentations on video to view at your leisure is something that we’ve never done before.. It was a true experiment that I think worked out well, even the sound came out decent. If you agree with me, we’ll continue to do this so that everyone can benefit from our conferences, and not just the ones who were lucky enough to be present.

So, with that said, connect to the presentations and then sit back with your popcorn and drink and have a great time!!

** Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) **
Jamboree on the Air is the largest Scouting event in the world. In a typical year over 1 million Scouts participate with over 11,000 stations operated by 20,000+ amateur radio operators in operation from 150+ countries around the world.

The National Radio Scouting Committee develops and maintains a great deal of JOTA supporting information online at Jamboree-on-the-Air in addition to all the information and USA Reports posted on this site.  You can see video reports of past year's activities below.

The official dates for 2016 are October 14, 15, 16. Note that JOTA officially begins on Friday evening at the start of the weekend.

So, if you haven’t gotten with your local Boy Scout group on this already, I would strongly suggest that you do it quickly.. You don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to have our younger folks missing the great adventures of Amateur Radio do you??
